The story behind the music: lecture by Gregor Schaefer

klezmer lecture by Gregor Schaefer
Gregor Schaefer, bassist and artistic director of Shtetl Band Amsterdam, gives a lecture "Klezmer music through the times". No matter if you do or don't have knowledge about this music, you will hear and see many interesting things about the origin of the style, the development and the instruments.

Using images and sound samples, Gregor gives a vivid picture of the development of klezmer music -- from the beginning in Eastern Europe on to the American styles and the diverse sounds of today.

The lecture takes about an hour but upon request can be shorter or longer. It is possible to book the lecture together with a performance by Shtetl Band Amsterdam, or separately.

Other music styles

Upon request we will play a music program that (besides klezmer) also includes other world music styles from the Balkan countries, Greece, Italy, France and Latin America.

Intermission music

In the intermissions of a performance by Shtetl Band Amsterdam, and also before or after, we can provide background or dance music from a laptop or mp3-player. You can decide what music styles will be part of the playlists.
